About Playwork

The Playwork Foundation is a new organisation to promote the value of playwork, support playworkers and advocate for children’s play.

We were formed in 2015-16 in response to a survey of the playwork field, which showed overwhelming support for the creation of a new vehicle that could make the case for playwork services, help to develop the playwork approach, and provide a representative platform for playwork practitioners.

The discussions about a potential new vehicle for playwork, held from 2013-15, led to a broad consensus about the kind of organisation the field wanted. This is set out in the statement of broad aims and principles that those initially interested in membership of a new body were invited to endorse.

Membership

On 8 November 2017, the Playwork Foundation launched as a membership organisation. You can join here.

Legal Status

In 2018 the Playwork Foundation was awarded registered charity status by the UK Charity Commission. It is governed by a board of trustees.
